The distinctive mirrored base is just the icing on the cake for this holder! The top has a 1/2" deep cutout to hold a 7/8" wide taper as well as a 3" wide cutout to hold a pillar candle, or use the entire 3 5/8" width for a larger pillar. Likewise, these cutouts can be used to hold florals.
